This society was created by students and for students who are in the STEM2D discipline. We offer fun social events as well as opportunities for industrial site tours and career information sessions with industry relevant guest speakers. The co-founders of this society know all too well how daunting it can be to be studying in a male-dominant course. It can be really isolating and hard to make friends. We get it. We've been there. That's why we would like to support women in STEM2D disciplines. Though the focus of this society is to empower women in the STEM2D discipline; the society is open for all to join, irregardless of gender or course. 27% of all new entrants in Irish Universities in 2012/13 are studying in the field of STEM with only 35% of that being female participants. That's less than 10% of female participation across most courses. Our goals in this society are: 1. To tackle peer isolation by creating a safe space where girls can meet other girls within the same and/or similar discipline. 2. To introduce the students to the benefits and importance of early peer networking; by hosting corporately sponsored information nights with guest speakers. 3. To actively combat the “leaky pipeline” by targeting secondary school students and encouraging them to take higher level math and STEM2D subject choices for their Leaving Certificate. Events: Pizza night, Movie night, Roller jam session, Coop information night (what to wear, who to ask for help, accommodation and all your real questions answered), Career focused information nights led by guest speakers, site tours and more!
